Salut, bonjour & welcome to this new blog of mine.

Only time will tell, but I’m hoping fill it with some of my recipes, things that catch my eye, events & restaurants that tickle my taste buds, plus various other bits & pieces that I discover along the way.10430490_540329975631_819528863891562244_n

So to the reasons behind this blog..
Firstly, I cook a lot. Whether it’s sweet, savoury, gluten-free, gluten full, vegetarian, meaty.. I’ve tried & tested foods in both my own kitchen and whilst assisting the odd chef or two. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have had the opportunities to travel & try an immense array of cuisines from all over the globe and I guess it’s naturally inspired me for whenever I’m in the kitchen. I’m also an artist that worked in ceramic sculpture & installation, so that has definitely had an effect on the creative & visual side of things. Or so I’m told..

Secondly, I have the time. We’re currently waiting on CIC to process our inland spousal visa application (I’ll explain the ‘we’ a little further down the page). It also means I can’t officially work or study here at the moment. I don’t want to bore you with the details (read this or join this Facebook group if you do want to understand) but with more & more extended delays on applications I need something, like this blog, to occupy my time as well as learning la langue française.

Thirdly, as a new British ‘Anglo’ expat living in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (AKA HoMa), I found it hard to find much information on where things were/what was happening, especially in my area. And it’s a way to promote our Montréal foodie/potluck group Table de Cuisines. And also our Hochelaga events group Go HoMa. Plus hopefully this blog will help me when it’s time for me to start looking for work. I guess it acts as a nice portfolio. And it’s a rather useful way to store my recipes other than being randomly scribbled on scraps of paper. And… ok. I realise there are quite a few reasons so I’ll stop at these. I think you get the idea.

And who am I?..
Well, I arrived here in Montréal last year, just in time for my first full-on experience of a Québec winter. Eek! Anyway, I live in Hochelaga with my significant other. He’s Québécois & I’m British.. Well, actually I’m British born Irish Chinese (& also a bit Vietnamese somewhere too). Long story short-ish, we met in a small village in Northern Laos, after randomly sitting next to him in a restaurant where I let him finish off a curry dish I ordered. No joke – the way to a man’s heart IS through his stomach. After a couple of disastrous kayak & river trips, it was just meant to be. Since our adventurous travelling days, we were in Beijing, China for a good while, then we were in London, UK for a couple of years & now we’re here in Montréal. Hopefully to stay.

So on a final note or two, as everything here is just me blurting out my personal opinions, I understand that sometimes you may not agree with what I say (& sometimes you will want to shower me with praise.. right?!) Either way, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to drop me a note & I’ll try & get back to you. Plus, if you would like to use my photos, please get my permission first. Pretty please.

I just hope you’ll find some of what’s on this blog interesting… if not, I apologise.. but not really. You’ve already read this far.

  1. Bonjour,

  2. This sounds super strange, but I’m from London and also Chinese Irish and have moved to Montreal last Dec also – spooky! I’m currently working here, but also find it difficult to find things going on around Montreal. Welcome and good luck
