Measurements

Often I throw things together when I cook & just judge by sight or taste, which of course doesn’t always work!

However.. Cups, grams, sticks, etc etc..

It’s annoying when you come across a recipe that has measurements in a format that you’re not used to. Using grams is the ideal (personally) as it’s the most exact, especially when baking. Another reason is because cups are different depending on the country and the volume can change depending on how ‘packed’ the ingredient is. Which again, is rather annoying.

Anyway, here’s some handy apps to download..
Convert everything
Convert Pad

And here’s a couple of handy links..
Good to Know – cups to grams weight converter
Exploratorium – measurement equivalents
Chewtown – measurements guide for any folks in Australia

Plus my favourite link and my own mini measurement guide (for now – as I will update this over time)..
Traditional Oven – Depending on the ingredient, just choose a category from the right hand side to covert

Oven temperatures
450°F = 230°C = Gas Mark 8
425°F = 220°C = Gas Mark 7
400°F = 200°C = Gas Mark 6
375°F = 190°F = Gas Mark 5
350°F = 180°C = Gas Mark 4
325°F = 165°C = Gas Mark 3
300°F = 150°C = Gas Mark 2
275°F = 140°C = Gas Mark 1

Dried ingredients
1 tsp = 5g

1/3 cup = 75g
1/2 cup = 115g = 1 stick
2/3 cup = 150g
3/4 cup = 170g = 1 & 1/2 sticks
1 cup = 225g = 2 sticks

Liquids

1 tbsp = 15ml
1/8 cup = 30ml
1/4 cup = 60ml
1/2 cup = 120ml

Also, as mentioned in my earlier post, another lovely way to remember what’s what is through some of the infographics, like these from the Kitchen 101 series by Chasing Delicious.
